Character States Issues

I have set up a character from the photo characters in Storyline with a variety of states. Each of the states is positioned on the right side of the slide. When I click through the states, they are all positioned correctly. However, when I preview or publish, the character enters and stops in the middle of the slide instead. The confusing part is that some of the characters change to the correct position, while others do not.
Also, I can't select the character by clicking on the object on the slide. The only way I can select her is via the timeline. Then there is no bounding box. So, when I use the arrows, it moves the timeline not the character.

This seems very odd. I will assume you are using storyline version 5. There can be issues with states if you aren't replacing the image on each state
i.e. you copy and paste images into the new state or add in more images to replace the others.
It's much better to create states based on the first state and then change picture to replace the image.
I don't know if this will solve your issue as I have not encountered it myself. I hope this helps

It sounds like some odd behavior within Storyline, so I'd begin by ensuring that you're adhering to these general guidelines for your files:
You could also try importing the .story file into a new file as described here.
