Choppy Video content published

Dec 19, 2016

Hi all,

I have enquiries regarding publishing the content.

I have a module that consist of video and quiz in it. The video was recorded and the format is mov if I'm not mistaken. I am aware that video will be ready as mp4 after publish.

Steps taken to publish is as usual, i tried to published for CD and view the content in the local drive, the video is choppy and lag. We tried to publish the video is LMS and view it,also not smooth.

My organization has disabled the audio from Internet so meaning to say, I cannot use LMS tu host the content.  i tried to view from local server, the result is disappointing.  Is there any suggestion on how to have the video run smooth. Tried to cut the video into partition also not working.

Fyi, my company is using thin client and very strict about internet access.

One more, could you please suggest any subtitle extract software. Due to the restrictions of HQ about to have audio from the net, my boss suggest to have a video with subtitle but mute.

Thank you on advance for your response.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you soon. Tq

Sorry to hear you've run into this issue with the video, Noorzeyhan. You'll want to ensure you're testing published content in the environment for which it is published. If I understand correctly, it sounds like you prefer not to test your content on the web or LMS because of disabled audio, correct? When you published the content for CD, did you double-click Launch_Story.exe to view the content?

Would it be possible for you to share you .story project file so I can test it on my end? You can use the Add Attachment button at the bottom of the reply window. If you prefer to share it privately, you can send it to us using this secure form

Like you mentioned, it sounds like adding subtitles/closed captioning is the way to go, since you can no longer use audio. I'll defer to the community for their experience using these kinds of tools!

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes. launched the course by double click the mentioned file.  Just out of my curiosity, is this something related to network/thin client or the fact that storyline compresses the video? Because we tried to play the Windows video file that available in the folder, the video run smooth but the output from storyline is disappointing.

I wish that I could share the file. Can I have the email address to send the file because my company not allowing any sharing file through the net. Thank you and appreciate your support!

Hello Noorzeyhan.  If you run your published output on a normal desktop setup (not a thin client), do you notice any difference in the video quality?  Do you have local C: drive storage on your computer?  How about your hardware -- does it match what's listed in our system requirements?  These are some of the considerations that come to mind when working with a thin client.

If you use this link to open a case first without attaching your file, you can attempt to attach your file in an email reply back to our support team.  Your email may place a limit on the size of the file being sent, so keep that in mind.  If you have a dropbox, you can also share a link to your file that way with our support team.

Happy to help out!
