Clearing a text field

Aug 17, 2022

Hi everyone.

I am new to Storyline but I need to use it for work.

I am building a course and I would like to know if it is possible to clear a data entry field on a slide if a user has to go back to correct an answer for a quiz-like interaction?

This is how my interaction works.  I present the user with a scenario and they have to type in the correct answer for the scenario in a data entry field on that slide.

If they get the answer wrong, they are taken to a slide that says "Sorry" and are asked to try again.  This takes them back to the previous slide.

When they are taken back to that same slide, I see that the previous wrong answer remains in the text field and they have to use the keyboard to clear it.

I want to know if it is possible to clear it automatically from the previous slide or does everything need to be on one slide to do this?

Should I then have my "Sorry" slide as a layer on the same slide with the text data entry field input?

Hi Dee and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community! 🎉 We're so happy that you're here.

Thank you for sharing your question with us in the forum.

You can use a trigger on your Sorry slide that clears the value of the TextEntry variable. Here are a few discussions that will give you more details on how you can achieve that:

While this discussion was related to Storyline 2, the logic still applies to triggers and variables in Storyline 360:
