Clicking Enter to Move to Next Slide With Text Entry Box

Jan 31, 2024

I am running into a snag with a software simulation I am putting together. I need users to enter some information into a text entry box and then click Enter to move to the next slide. However, this is not working for me because of the requirement to click somewhere on the slide first. Is there a way to get this to happen when the user hasn't clicked the slide?

The issue was, when they started on the slide, the text entry box is already active with a blinking cursor. Functionality wise. the user does not need to select the text entry box in order to type. In the simulation, they had already clicked to select the text box area in the previous slide, so it also didn't make sense to have them click the box again.

I ended up looking into this more, and found a previous discussion post that answered my question: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/storyline-press-key-trigger-can-i-remove-the-click-requirement?utm_campaign=elh_search&utm_medium=internal&utm_source=elh-referral

To sum it up, when setting up the trigger, you want to pick "When user presses Enter after clicking on this slide." It should work, even if the user is not clicking on the slide. It didn't work at first for me, but I cut and pasted it and that seemed to fix it.
