Collaborating on files - font issues

May 15, 2013

Hi

When my colleagues and I collaborate on Storyline files we have real problems with the fonts. One person set up the master slides for me and when I opened it to input the text all the font sizes had changed dramatically. Then I passed it on to a colleague to QA and when she opened it the fonts had all changed again.

We all have the correct fonts downloaded, any idea what is going on?

Please help as we are losing so much time having to reformat our slides.

Thanks

Rachel

Welcome to the community, Rachel!

It sounds like a quite a few people and machines are opening the course files. There's a few things you might want to check, just to make sure you're all running the correct settings. This will help ensure there aren't any drastic differences between the machines that may be causing these issues.

First, please make sure you're all viewing the files locally when you attempt to modify or save the project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Make sure that you're all using 100% zoom when viewing your project. Sometimes, if your zoom is set below or above 100%, you can run into some strange font and formatting behavior.

Please make sure all three of you are using the correct DPI settings for Storyline. Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI

Also, please make sure you're all running the most recent version of Storyline. To find this information, please click on "Help" and "About Articulate Storyline". If you're not running version 2 (1212.1412), please download and install Update 2 from the link below:

Download Storyline Update 2

If you check all of this information and still run into trouble with your fonts, please let me know.

Thanks and welcome again!

Christine
