Combination of answers determine final outcome for scenario

Jan 22, 2014

Hello there,

I was wondering if it is possible to create a scenario with Storyline where the learner sees a character that asks three questions. For each question, the learner has three answers they can choose from: one being satisfying, one indifferent and one making the customer angry.

Depending on the options the learner selects when talking to the same customer, the customer ends up buying the product or not. For example, if the learner selects 2 satisfying answers and one indifferent or 3 satisfying answers for one character, the character buys the product. Any other combination would mean the customer does not buy the product.

Is this possible to create using Storyline?

Hi Lucia,

Certainly - and it sounds like a fun project, too!

You could do this with states, i believe. You could change the state of the "customer's" character depending on what answer the user selects. You could either have this change as soon as the answer is selected (for a single response), be based off of a variable for multiple selections, or you could have it happen when the user clicks "submit" on your quiz.

I would recommend checking out the following tutorials, just to get started:

Another option, which might be a great option for you, would be to provide the different character expressions on the feedback portion of the quiz question. If the correct or "satisfying" responses are chosen, you could show a pleased customer. If any of the incorrect or indifferent responses are chosen, you can show a customer that's not really happy with the responses that were selected.

Hi Lucia, welcome to the community!

This can easily be done by using some variables to capture the question selections. Then at the "Buying Decision" slide, you can check the value of the selections. If any of the questions had a "Angry" response than a NotBuying layer would be shown, otherwise the Buying layer is shown. See attached and here is the published version: http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl71_SL/BuyingDecision/story.html . Hope that gets you started.
