Compiling Information from Text Entry Fields

Jul 05, 2013

Hi E-Learning Heroes. My name is Kobewan. This is my dilema. I have 3 separate slides that contain different textentry fields. I want to protect or lock the information written on the text entry fields and show them to a new slide for them to compare their answers. Is this possible? I really appreciate your help on this.

Hi Kobewan! Thanks for joining the community and thank you for posting your question! There are several different ways that you can go about doing what you have described, but it is definitely possible!

One way to do this is by using variables and references. When you create a text entry field it Storyline automatically assigns a variable to that field. If you insert a reference to the variable, you can display the text that was typed by your user in the text entry box. If you put those references on a slide, next to a list of the correct answers, this should accomplish what you're looking to do with regards to comparing their answers... =)

This solution involves using simple variables and inserting a reference to the variables. Here's a few links on how to do this in case you need some help:

I've also created a simple .story file for you where I created an example, so you can use this file as a starting point to work from, if you wish. Hope this helps!! If you have any further questions or issues, I'll be happy to help =)
