Completing a quiz in multiple login sessions

Jan 11, 2017

Suppose I have a comprehensive quiz with many questions. The questions do not come one after the other, they are in different chapters and users can answer in any order they want (not linear). If the user answers say like 50% of the questions one day, then log out and come back next day to complete the quiz, are the previous answers remembered? So he/she can get a total result based on the answers in both day 1 and day 2?

I have been testing this with a course uploaded to a LMS but I cannot get the system to remember the answers from the previous day. I choose to resume where I left off and then just complete remaining questions but end result only shows result based on the answers given during the current session. Anyone knows how to deal with this issue?

Hello Ursula!

Like Phil mentioned, it sounds like you've exceeded the SCORM suspend data limit, which tells the learning management system (LMS) where you leave off when you exit the course and lets you resume the course later in the same place without having to start over. You can read more on that here.

If you have a large course that exceeds suspend data limits, here are some suggestions for correcting it:

  • Disable the resume feature in Storyline.
  • Reduce the number of slides until the resume feature works as expected. The limit will vary, depending on a variety of factors. You'll need to test your content in your LMS to verify.
  • Republish your course for SCORM 2004 3rd Edition or 4th Edition, both of which support much longer suspend data.

Thank you Phil and Alyssa, I have a very small test course so size shouldn´t be a problem. I am able to resume where I left, but previous answers are still not remembered. I am thinking of what Phil wrote:

"if your LMS truncates the resume data then you cannot resume correctly"

Sounds like a problem difficult to solve if it is on the LMS side.

Anyhow, I am sending to support for further guidance.

Thank you

The course I am testing now only has 3 questions as I am still assessing whether Storyline can manage our requirements before we built the "real" course, which will contain 66 questions. Articulate support has testet and it is working fine, so it is obviously a problem related to the LMS as you had indicated before. I will investigate with the LMS provider. Thank you again for your help!
