Conditional Links Based on Intranet Connection

Aug 08, 2013

Hi all!

Just joined tonight - love the forums and the community. You don't even know how helpful you've been so far.

Anyway, I work as an Instructional Design Assistant, and we're looking at Storyline to replace some complicated web frameworks we no longer have the personnel to support.

Most of the features needed for our courses are present in Storyline, and we're seriously considering the switch.

However, one of our clients consistently requests that we have conditional links, depending on whether or not the learner is connected to their intranet. If they are connected, external links will guide them to the appropriate intranet page. If they are not connected, they are given a PDF as an alternative resource when possible, and issued an error message otherwise.

Does storyline have the capability to check for this type of connection and trigger resources accordingly?

I suspect it might be something that can be added via JavaScript, in which case we might be able to leverage it from our existing web framework. I would just need to know how to go about doing that.

Thanks for any and all help!

-Jordan

Hi Jordan and welcome to the Heroes Community!

Sorry that this post got missed, so I appreciate you following up. I have not seen anything with conditional links, but as you mentioned Javascript may be the way to accomplish it - and that is certainly not my area of expertise, although there are a number of community members who are Javascript pros. Hopefully one of them will chime in!

Good luck with your project, and if there is anything else we can help you with please let us know!
