Connecting quiz slide and next scene

Nov 24, 2015

Hi there,

I am creating a e-learning module for the first time with articulate storyline 2. I have some queries that are stopping me from completing my module. They are:

Can i include a 'Review Quiz' button in the 'success' or 'failure' layers? I want the result slide.

How can i stop someone from moving to next scene unless he or she has answered a quiz correctly? I am talking about 1-2 quiz questions that you have in  between the module. I think its something to do with Variables but i am not sure.

Please help.

Hi Vivek,

The Review quiz button can be on the base layer of your results slide and therefore accessible from the success or failure layers. If you'd prefer that learners only had the option of seeing it from one layer, you could also look at adding it on there directly vs. having it on the base layer.

In regards to not moving forward, you could set the "next" button or whichever navigational element you're using to not jump to the next slide unless certain conditions are met, such as the correct answer being in the selected state. If you're having difficulty setting this up you may want to share a copy of your .story file here so that the community could take a look and weigh in on some options.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I think i got the answer for my first query. Thank You.

Regarding the second query, i think i will be more clear if i send a sample and state my query accordingly. PFA.

In the attached file the first slide has some content then there are two quizzes and then there is the next scene.

So, my questions is:

In the first scene, second assessment how do i stop the user from going to the next scene if the user answers incorrectly? I want them to go through the content once again and attempt the quiz again. If the answer is right then the user can move to the next scene.

Hi Vivek,

Thanks for sharing your project file. If you wanted them to keep trying that one particular question until they got it correct to proceed I would set the attempts to unlimited which would allow them to continually see the "try again" layer and be prompted with the question again until they answer correctly. No need to use a variable for that set up as the question will control it all on it's own.

Thanks a lot Ashley.

Apologies for the late reply.

I have a new query.

I am trying a create a counter to check the number of attempts for a quiz.

As per solution, i have created a variable and set its initial value to zero.

Then i am creating a trigger for "Retry Quiz" button which increases the counter, but the ADD operator is not present under the "Operator" drop down. There is only "=Assignment" operator present which can't be used in this case. Please help.

Hi Vivek

I'm not sure what changes you have made to your story file but I downloaded the one above.  I added a result slide and created a number variable called 'attempts'. I added a trigger to the 'Retry Quiz' button to add one to the variable attempts when user clicks the retry button.  This might help you with what you are trying to achieve.
