Consistent freeze during Action Fine Tuning of Try Scene
Jan 10, 2013
Hello,
I'm new to Storyline and am currently testing the software to see if it is a viable alternative to other development tools in the Mac environment.
I have installed a trial version on VMWare Fusion for Mac. My virtual machine is set up as an isolated system within the Mac OS, so there is no crossover between Macintosh and Windows. So far, Storyline is working wonderfully, but I just hit my first snag today.
When using Action Fine Tuning to edit a Try Scene, Storyline is consistently freezing. To troubleshoot the problem, I've restarted Storyline, Windows and Virtual Machine. I also created two new files with different content to see if perhaps the original file I created was corrupt. The issue remained.
Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?
Thanks for your help,
Julia

Hey Julia, welcome to Heroes!
Sorry to hear you've hit a snag. I, too, run Storyline from a virtual machine (Parallels) and haven't run into any trouble with the Action Fine Tuning. How many CPUs and memory do you currently have committed to your VM?
Hi Peter,
Thanks for the help. Right now it is set up for 1 processor , with 24.9GB allocated for hard disk space and 1024MB memory. I'm not very familiar with using the Virtual Machine. I'm running Fusion 5.0.2 on Mac OS 10.7.5.
Hi Julia!
OK, cool. I was noticing some lag in my VM when using Storyline as well, initially. I allocated more juice to the Windows side (4 CPUs and 3800 MB memory), and haven't had an issue since. I realize that's a big jump, but it might be worth bumping yours up and then seeing if it allows the Action Fine Tuning to run without stalling just so we can see if that's the underlying issue.
Let us know...
Thanks!
Peter... wonderful!
That did it. Thank you so much!
Awesome! So glad to hear it
Let us know if you run into any other issues, and good luck with the project!
I'm a new Storyline user. I recorded my screen and then selected Try Mode. I edited one of the screens by moving the hotspot without any problems. However, when I edited the next screen by changing the Start and End frames and then clicked OK, the program freezes while saving the changes and doesn't finish updating the action movie for the slide.
I'm using Parallels and have increased the memory to 6 GB which is above the recommended .5 GB to 4 GB configuration.
My laptop has 16 GB of RAM. Any suggestions of how to fix this issue? Thanks!
Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. See if a quick repair of your software helps resolve the issue. Otherwise, we'd be happy to take a closer look at it. Please submit a case, including your .story file, using this link so our support team can assist you further.
Thanks!
Hi Daniel!! Thanks for updating us, that is great to hear!
I'm still having issues with the fine tuning freezing.
Hi David! Have you tried the instructions shared above? If you've checked your memory and done the repair as shared in this thread, then perhaps you would need to work with support to see what is going on.
