Course Navigation Doesn't Work When Relaunched

Aug 23, 2019

Hello. I have a course that was recently launched and has been working for the majority of users. However, we have recreated an issue that a learner has had where when he did not pass the assessment at the end, he advanced to the final screen of the course and followed the directions to hit "Exit" (vs just the X in his browser window). Now, when he restarts the course and resumes where he left off, it takes him to that final screen (vs the assessment summary) as we would expect. The issue is that the "previous" button to press and get back to the assessment to retake it, while shown, isn't working (it worked when we tested it by closing the browser and not using the "Exit" button). The trigger for that slide appears to be correct in the course. I don't see anything that would disable that trigger if a user hits exit. Is there some setting I am unaware of that would disable the navigation buttons of the player when a user "Exit"s a course vs just closing their browser? We can't get him back to the assessment so he can retake it and get credit for the course.

Thanks for any insight!

The Jump To Previous trigger is interesting.     It does not jump to the prior slide in the menu of slides.  Rather, it jumps to the slide YOU were on prior to coming to the current slide.

So, with the menu panel open on the left... start you course, then use the menu to jump 5 slides ahead.   Now, when you click PREVIOUS it actually takes you back to the slide you were on before, 5 slides back.

Cool?   And this is a session-specific thing, in my experience.  So reopening the course means there is no "previously visited slide" in the current session, so those buttons would not initially do anything until you successfully started navigating around some other way.

---------------------

To make a Jump To Previous slide always go back to the prior slide in the MENU order, change it to Jump to Slide XX where you specify the target slide surgically.

This often a necessary edit on the final slides of a course where you are in situations like yours.

Thank you so much, Jerry! I am currently testing this to see if it fixes the issue. Would it make a difference that users can navigate back to the screen before if they just closed their browser window vs hitting Exit? Does hitting Exit change something with the way that the course "remembers" what you visited before? That is the only anomaly that we are seeing with users right now and whether they can go back to the Assessment Results screen or not. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for sharing the difference you are experiencing with using the 'x' to close the course vs. the 'exit' button.

I've not seen this behavior before.
