Crazy hover state

I've lost control of my hover states!

First I tried using the built-in hover state to display a piece of text when a shape was hovered over. But when I did this, the text from the normal state was also visible.

Next, I tried creating a new state and setting a trigger to change the state when the initial shape is hovered over. But now the text on the normal state disappears after the shape is hovered over. the trigger is set to 'restore on mouse leave' so that's not the problem.

Any ideas? It's becoming a big waste of time! File attached.
