I read this great tutorial in your forum and forgot to save the link. Can you help me find the source? Part of the video showed how to change the quality of a shape when it was pasted on the shaded overlay so that it appeared transparent and you could see the base layer underneath.(It wasn't this one , although that is good) It looked like this diagram - I have shifted the overlay to emphasise the cutout.
I'm trying to search for a similar tutorial and I'm not finding anything right away. Do you remember if it was a tutorial on our site here or someone shared it in the community? Do you remember who wrote it?
If only I could recall! It may have been in a community. It was an
interactive story about how to build the functionality behind the sample
slide that I attached - a male author. Going back to my original I've
noticed that the resultant overlay is made up of a .png file (the grey
background and the cutout)and the text . Does that trigger a memory? The
thing is that I see a lot of requests for the same feature and somewhere,
in one of the learnings, there IS a solution!
Attaching the sample again. I've shifted the overlay image slightly to the
right so that you can see the construction
(See attached file: Forum question about windows in overlay.JPG)
It doesn't appear that your attachment was included here. If you replied via email and included the attachment those are not posted to the forums. If Phil's suggestion doesn't assist, please let us know and then visit the forums to upload the attachment.
You're a hero! It worked when you selected all objects and saved as a
picture, rather than grouping and saving. Strange.
But I'm very happy with the solution and your quick response.
thank you

thanks in advance for any assistance,

Change your transparent shape to a solid colour with the same colour line as fill.
Group the shape with the transparent background and save as a picture.
Hide the grouped object, insert your picture and change your solid colour to transparent using the picture tools
