Ctrl+Alt+P play/pause shortcut now conflicting with Print shortcut in Chrome

Aug 16, 2022

We've recently begun experiencing an issue in Chrome where, when one uses the built-in Ctrl+Alt+P keyboard shortcut, a Print dialog panel opens, in addition to the slide being paused or played.

It's annoying users in general but is particularly problematic for screen reader users, since it's unexpected behavior and pulls focus out of the eCourse and into the print dialog.

I have Chrome Version 104.0.5112.81 (64 bit) and can replicate the issue. The issue was first reported to us 8/15/22.

Does anyone have a solution they can recommend for preventing this behavior in Chrome?

So far, I have not found a way of preventing this issue, which is ultimately what I'm hoping for.

In the meantime, we can recommend in our screen reader instructions that users just hit the Esc key to close the dialog and that some users may need to tab back into the course to be able to continue interacting with it (since we're currently finding that to be the case with NVDA).

Hi Douglas,

Would you mind installing the latest update for Chrome (105). We were able to replicate on version 104 and found that the behavior no longer happened after updating Chrome to the latest (as of the time of this post).

Edge doesn't have a 105 update yet, but their support page shows that it is just around the corner

Thank you,
Mike M.
