Custom captions show at the same time

Nov 03, 2023

I am trying to create custom captions using the built in CC button. I have created rectangles with the appropriate text and set them as hidden by default. When the CC button is clicked and the displaycaptions variable is true, the rectangles are set to normal. However, even though they do not overlap on the timeline, when the CC button is first clicked, it shows them all. As the timeline progresses, they fade out as they are supposed to but why are all the rectangles showing at the same time and how do I fix it? Why would the state impact when the objects start on the timeline?

Thanks

HI Shannon,

That's storyline behavior, as soon as you change the state for the button it will display it on the screen. it won't synch with the timeline.

The best way to achieve this feature is by changing the variable content. i have made the changes in the package and you can refer to the same and do it for your full project.

Thanks Raj. I actually came up with a different workaround. Since the client's template that has the purple rectangle along the bottom, I just put the text in normally and timed it to appear, and then put a matching rectangle on top that is switched between hidden and visible when the CC button is clicked.

Hi Phil, my client doesn't like the look of the built in captions and wanted them to match the course. This was the only solution I could come up with that would appease her.
