In short, yes, the buttons will work on a slide with layers.
If you'd like to move through the layers by using the next button, it is not going to work that way by default, but with some variables and triggers, it can be done.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.

I want to use the player’s next and previous buttons just like they work when moving from slide to slide.
Now, when I press next on a slide that has layers, the layers are skipped and the next slide (not a layer) is shown.
