Deselect Pick Many answer choice

Jul 12, 2013

I am trying to create a freeform -pick many question and even went through the sceenrcasts to see if I am doing something wrong.

I have buttons and I have converted to freeform, everything is working correctly in terms of  showing that I have selected certian opjects and objects remain selected,  but if i change my mind on a certian answer choice, it isnt reverting back to the intial state when I click the button a second time. I am also not seeing any kind of "glow" that storyline is supposed to automatically add in.  Should I be using shapes, to make my own buttons, or will the premade buttons suffice? Please advise, this has been driving me bananas all day!

Nancy,  I was hoping you might reply, i have see some of your responses and you are quite informative!

Here is the file you requested.  I removed the shadow effect from the buttons, and the "glow" appeared upon selecting one of the answer choices.  However, the issue I am coming across is that I am unable to de-select the options.  Please let me know what i am doing wrong and how to correct this Thank you so much for all of your help!

Oh my gosh! I feel silly! So I had converted my slide to pick many... and the background was a bit darker, so the glow effect was not showing up. I went into the states and changed the glow to be darker, removed any additional triggers like what you will see in this file and it is working like a charm!

Lesson learned: When converting to freeform --> Remove all triggers from answer choices as they will override the pre-established programming and functionality on the question slide. Change the state after conversion to make "selected" state more apparent depending on the background.   **face palm**  Happy monday to me, LOL.

I really appreciate you willingness to help though, very admirable! Thank you so much!

Hi Regina,

@Nancy - sorry for jumping in on this

The issue you have is because you have added buttons to your slide. By doing so, SL has automatically assigned a trigger to each, which have been updated to "change state to 'selected' when user clicks". Deleting these triggers will then enable you to select and then de-select each button.

For this type of interaction, I would personally use shapes rather than buttons as buttons have several states by default (hover, down, visited and disabled), which aren't required - only 'normal' and 'selected'.
