I'm reviewing a Storyline 2 file. In the Design tab, I'm trying to access Background Styles. Unfortunately, in the Design tab, all options are "grayed out" and not accessible. Yet, this option is available in the template that the programmer started with -- at least he should have :).
What do I click so that I may access the grayed out menu options in the Design tab?
You could follow the steps as Wendy mentioned here and it's also worth confirming that you're working on local project files. If you're seeing elements of Storyline that you're not able to access consistently across your project files you'll also want to look at repairing Storyline as described here.

try creating a new project file and importing the current one in and see if that fixes the issue.
