Disable Next in Quiz until Question Answered

Oct 26, 2012

I have a series of courses I am developing with a short quiz at the end of each. The questions are drawn from a question bank with "Next" on the questions rather than "Submit" - the answers are all submitted together at the end of the quiz, then the results screen is presented.

All that is working fine with one exception. The user can click "Next" through the entire quiz without actually answering any of the questions. Of course, they don't pass the quiz but for these courses it's about the content and not so much about passing the quiz.

I would like to disable the "Next" button until an answer is selected, however, but can't find a way to do that. Is it possible in Storyline? If so, how can I do that?

Thanks.

Michael

Hi Michael,

I have looked at it and, since you want all the questions to be answered in order, I was wondering why not using the submit button and changing the text on it and removing the feedback layers?

You would have exactly what you need that way - an alert saying that the question needs to be answered before continuing.

Otherwise, you can add conditionnal triggers to the Next button and a "Oops!" layer to indicate that a choice must be made before moving on.

Your triggers could look like those :

Hope it helps and don't hesitate to post back if you need further information.
