Disabling the F5 Button?
Apr 23, 2015
After extensive testing of my Storyline 2 project in our client's LMS (LRN), the QA team has determined that "the user gets a False completion in the history tab of user profile when user clicks on F5 (Function key 5) while taking the course." The course is set up with a one question quiz/sign off at the end and tracks completion based on that quiz. I cannot find any documented issues with the F5 button. Any ideas? Can I/should I add code to disable the F5 button?

Hi Christi!
We have a list of keyboard shortcuts that you can utilize when working in Storyline.
In a normal browser, the F5 key typically refreshes/reloads the page.
It's not coming from the Articulate software. You may be able to control/edit this via keyboard or accessibility settings on the computer.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to the keyboard/computer settings for the client's employees. Although the issue is not coming from the Articulate software, is there a way to disable the functionality of the f5 button in the javascript file? I'm assuming you have never heard of this crazy issue before?
I have not Christi and I do not know much about JavaScript, I hope that someone in the community will be able to chime in and assist you.
Hi Leslie, I'm sure you've moved on from this problem by now, but if you encounter it again, this conversation helped me disable F2, perhaps it will help you.

I will say however, I tried the same JavaScript, adjusted the code for F4, but wasn't successful. No idea why.
Thanks for popping in to share Karel :)
Hi Christi,
I am at the same spot with LRN. I tried the JavaScript posted above and it did not work for me. Just wondering how you eventually got around this. :-)
I didn't. I added an undesirable work around by putting an image of the 'F5' key with a hot spot on the page and calling it a 'virtual' key. Sorry, I'm no help.
Hi Randy! Looks like Karel has popped in to share her workaround. If you were still wanting to touch base with Christi on this issue, you may want to utilize the Contact Me option on her user profile as this thread is a bit dated and I'm not sure if she's still subscribed.
Thanks for the gentle hint Leslie!
No worries Randy :)
