Downloading published Storyline modules from Google Drive gives a black screen

Oct 23, 2020

I deliver my published Storyline modules to our CMS admin via Google Drive.

One module works properly before I upload it to Google Drive. But, after it's downloaded from Google Drive, and then launched, only a black screen appears.

Here's what I've troubleshot:

  • I've published a new module. The issue persists.
  • I've downloaded .html outputs and with .zip files (that are unzipped, then launched). The issue persists.
  • I've tested the download with other modules. They work fine.

Hello Amy!

I'm happy to help! After publishing the project, you'll need to upload the zip folder to either a web server or LMS. Google Drive will only host the published output folder rather than display the project. Have you tried uploading the project to Tempshare to see if the project displays correctly? If not, click this link to test the project in Tempshare.

Hi Lauren,
Thanks for getting back to me. Actually, we're not hosting off Google Drive, it's just a hand-off area. Previously, we were able to pull files off Google Drive without problems.

Per your suggestion, I uploaded the .zip file to Tempshare. The published file displays correctly.

Also, after I posted this issue, I updated to the latest version of Storyline 360. The black-screen issue disappeared for me, but it still persists for my admin.

I've attached an image of the black screen that appears after he downloads a published file from Google Drive, and launches it.

Is there anything we can do to resolve this issue?

Hi Amy,

We often recommend viewing the course in its intended environment. A course viewed locally may encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that can cause various course features to fail. Your admin may be experiencing this.

Review 360 and Tempshare are possible options for temporary review if needed!
