Drag and drop feedback page

May 22, 2014

Hi all,

I created a drag and drop with a dozen elements to drag on 3 drop boxes. After the last drop, I'd like to some generic feedback to show automatically. I was thinking I could create a pop-up, or branch to a page, or create a custom result slide to put my feedback image/text on... but I can't seem to figure out how to do it using any of those methods with this kind of interaction. It doesn't seem that hard, but it sure has me stumped right now. Any ideas? Thanks!  Tim

Hi Tim,

It'll depend on how you want to trigger this - based on each of the drag items being dropped on option 1, 2 or 3? You could also use a state change and show the new layer or slide based on the state of all the drag items changing. Can you share a bit more about how you've set this up or even your .story file so far so that we could offer some specific suggestions?

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm pretty flexible on how to trigger it, I just want to show the reader an image after the last drag item is dropped. I've created lots of pop-ups and layers over the last couple of years, and it sure seems like it would be easy enough to do for this interaction as well, but it gets to that last drop and... I can't figure out how to automatically show something after that event occurs.

I've attached a screenshot showing how the drag item has states associated with it and the three drop sites.

I have this funny feeling it's going to be painfully obvious when I learn how to do it, but it's evading me so far! Thanks!

Hi Tim,

Could you upload the slide? I read your post and took a look at your picture, but I'm not sure I totally get what you want to do. A dozen elements to be dropped on 3 targets with any combination of incorrect showing a specific incorrect prompt?

So, for the sake of argument, if 1 through 4 go on DropA; 5 through 8 go on DropB; 9 through 12 go on DropC

That could be a lot of combos of incorrect...right?and you'd want a specific message for each incorrect combo?

And, you want the incorrect message to appear as soon as the last drop is made, but before clicking Submit?

Tim, here's one option I mocked by modifying the CORRECT layer on the FEEDBACK MASTER.

Here's what I did:

1) go into VIEW | FEEDBACK MASTER

2) Hover to find the "Correct Feedback Master"

3) Modify that slide (and/or the Clean Slide Master as I did)

4) Close Master View

5) Verify that the changes took on the "correct" layer [bottom ride hand side of SL screen under Slide Layers}

The caveat is that if you have multiple quizzes with CORRECT layers this layer will always pop up, but you can always 1) create other FEEDBACK MASTER slide, 2) re-name it to something intuitive, 3) re-direct the "correct" layer by creating another layer and point to it.

Make sure you use the normal TEXT BOX for your modifications on that revised Feedback Master (versus Placeholder Text).

Hi Karen, thanks for the reply and no, I didn't need a unique message for each incorrect combo, just wanted a single layer to pop up at the end that I could drop an image regardless of the choices made.

And thank you Karen, for some reason I was not getting the Edit Feedback Master drop down when I went to the new slide layers, it was really bugging me too!. But I copied your settings (and did a restart) and they appeared. Muchos gracias!  Tim
