I have followed all of the recommendations I can find online, even creating individual triggers on each page. I still cannot get my storyline controls to operate the Previous button correctly. My slides simply won't advance to the Previous slide. Project deadline looming- HELP!
When you refer to "advance to Previous slide" are you wanting the behavior for users to return the "previous" slide viewed, or the previous slide within the sequence of the navigation?
I ask because the default "Jump To Previous Slide" does not return to a slide in direct sequential navigation unless it was truly previously visited.
For example, let's say you were on Slide 7 and then clicked the Next button to advance to Slide 8. Then, using the sidebar menu you chose to revisit Slide 3. From there if you were to click the "Previous" button, the navigation would take you back to Slide 8 (previously visited) and not Slide 2.
I refer to the default "Jump To Previous Slide" trigger as relative navigation. As apposed to "Jump To Slide 2.1" as absolute navigation.
Finally, what Terry said...can you share your .story file?
Thanks, that makes sense about the Previous Button not being able to visit that page unless it was truly visited. I've just uploaded the file. The client didn't want to side bar menu, so, that wasn't an option for this one. Thanks so much for your reply!
I am having an issue with this. I do not want to allow a user to use the next button until the slide has finished - so I used the "Locked" navigation resrticiton. Based on what I read in this thread - that is why my previous button will not work? I want th euser to be abblr to go tp previous slides, just not skip forward. Any thoughts?
You could make a button on the screen with the trigger similar to the previous button, or you could put a condition on the next button to activate it once the timeline ends.
Locked: This means learners can only view slides in the order you've designed. They can't jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they go back to any previously viewed slides.
Glad that works for you - and you can read more about the slide navigation settings in the article linked above. It's also worth noting that if you're using the restricted navigation in Storyline 2, the user won't be able to advance using the next button until the slide timeline has ended. So if you're looking to have them revisit previously seen slides, you may want to look at ensuring you're also using the "resume saved state" so that they don't have to wait for the entire slide to replay again.

could you share your .story file so we can take a look?
Sure, where should I post it?
just select the "add attachment" button where you type and navigate to it.

Thanks, here's the file.

Yes, sorry for the confusion, please find the attached file. Thanks for your help!

i fixed it...
Even though you dont have a menu on display, you still have the navigation locked. which negates any Prev/Next triggers.
Go into the player options, then sleect Menu in the top toolbar of the window that opens.
Underneath the contents select the gear button. nex tto the navigation restriction use the drop down arrow to select free.
then everything should work for you.
here is the file back now working properly.
AWESOME! Thank you so much! Last minute complications on a project deadline aren't good! Appreciate the timely response!
Glad i could help!
MANY thanks!!
Me too!!! It's so great to have "on-demand" support! Much appreciated!!
Glad you were able to get the assistance that you needed here Heather :)
Yep, Terry found it as well. Had to jump on a call but the only thing I could find was locked down navigation...which fixed it on my end, too.
Glad to hear it Kevin.

Hi Stan,
As described here, "locked" navigation:
Please let us know if you need anything else.
I had this same problem! I changed it from locked to restricted and it worked. The user still can't skip around, but previous works.
