Edit spacing of dates or titles within a timeline template triggered for movement

Mar 23, 2020

Attached is a screen shot of a timeline template that I am working on. The template came with dates in the state of the rectangle. I am trying to change the dates and space them out differently. There appears to be some kind of formula imbedded in the state that changes the spacing automatically. I tried a few things in the insert tab, but nothing worked. I would appreciate someone pointing me to the correct tab and sections to revise this state. Thank you.

Hi Deborah!

I'm happy to help! Here's a quick look at changing states in Storyline 360:

If the object isn't active when clicking on it, then it could be in the Slide Masters. Here's how to look in the Slide Masters:

Linda,

Thank you for your response. It is not in the state or master slides. I believe that I have to go into the rectangle, select the left alignment, and then put the numbers in and space accordingly. In the preview stage, the numbers stay put under the applicable text boxes as it moves. It is attached for your review. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you.

Linda,

I just discovered that there are motion paths in the timeline. Are you able to help me with this? I tried to extend the rectangle in Group 14, successfully. However, I wasn’t able to extend the motion path. In fact, it seemed to move backwards.

How do I extend the motion line, adding a few stops. How do I change the Chevron 1 trigger to extend the ability for the slide to keep moving? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Vincent,

Thank you for your response. The more I learn about Articulate, the MORE there is to learn! 😊 When you review this, you will notice that I added text boxes of verbiage to the first 3 or so group texts. I realize that I can’t do this, because they move along with the time line. I’ll revise this.

Here are my issues. On the attached slide, it appears that I need to revise the Animations, Add Motion Path – straight line. I want to extend the blue rectangle 18, so as to either add more rectangle text boxes or spread them out. My questions:

1. How do I extend the Motion Path? (I think that is what I need.)
2. How do I add the stops for the chevron 2 to make?
3. Are there triggers to add for the chevron 2 to move forward on a longer timeline, or does that come automatically within the timeline?

However, I do have another question. Since I am feeling more comfortable in creating layers: Is it possible to add a marker to these text boxes? In the first rectangle text box I have added one, but it moves within the motion path. Is this possible, if imbedded in a layer or something? If not, I can do without. But, maybe that is something else to learn.

Thank you!
Deborah
