Embedded Streamed Videos
Jan 10, 2013
I've been exploring embedding a video via inserting a web object and it's not working the way I hoped. So, I'm reaching out to the Articulate community to help me find a solution. The reason I'm exploring embedding videos via a web object is to have the ability to stream them from a video streaming vendor, instead of embedding the video into the Storyline file and housing them on our LMS web server via SCORM upload. At some point I foresee future videos being as long, if not longer than an hour. Ideally I would like a seamless process from watching the video, to other slides that contain a variety of interactions about the video. Since I have not explored any video streaming vendors I created test file using this YouTube link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SXdYioYwmo&feature=youtu.be - and received an error, see the attached image. I don't want the user to have to view the video in a different window, then come back to finish the lesson. I have not worked with any video streaming vendors so I'm not sure if this would be an issue depending on the vendor and/or access settings, or if it is possible to embed player code into Storyline to steam a video.
Thank you in advance for ideas or work around suggestions.

Hey Barb!
It looks to me like you might be trying to insert a restricted video. Do you know the author of the video? Would you be able to secure a non-restricted version of it?
Hi Peter,
I even tried it with one of my YouTube videos that doesn't have any restrictions, does that help?

Hmm, for troubleshooting purposes, have you tried inserting the video using the Insert > Video > Video from Website option? There are two ways to add a YouTube video to Storyline:
* Insert > Video > Video from Website
* Insert > Web Object
Each method has its unique benefits, and if you're able to view the video when inserting it via Storyline vs. web object, that might help clear up the issue.
Hi Peter,
The - Insert > Video > Video from Website - worked great and the link you provided will be valued information for future considerations.
Thank You for helping me find a work around.

Awesome! Glad that helped, and good luck with the project!
