Embedded Youtube videos not working in LMS/Scorm Cloud

May 10, 2016

Hi, I am hoping someone may be able to help me. I have inserted a web object of a youtube video. (http://www.youtube.com/embed/VkXImhA2-Z8) When I publish for web and upload to my server, it works perfectly. When I publish for LMS and load on my LMS (LearnUpon) or on ScormCloud, I get a grey box where the object is, but there is no sign of the object.

I have also tried inserting a video and using the embed code, but I get an error telling me the "A video cannot be inserted from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct and then try again." This is the embed code:

<iframe width="1920" height="971" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VkXImhA2-Z8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I have also tried other embed codes and I get the same message regardless.

I am using Storyline 2 Upadate 7.

I have attached the .story file

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Louise

Hi Louise,

Thanks for sharing the link to the video and the .story file. I'll take a look but in the meantime I did want to share in regards to the embed code the information here. You'll see that there is information there in terms of how YouTube changed their API and the way in which embed codes are handled.

Hi Louise,

Just an update - I did experience the same behavior as you noted here. It seems we've also reported this to our QA team for investigation as it seems specific to YouTube videos in an LMS and it may be connected to the issues noted as well for their API code and/or the documented things here for web objects not displaying.

It seems the current workaround is to set the Web Object from YouTube to display in a new browser window, or use a different site such as Vimeo which is still working as expected with the embedded web objects.

I don't have a timeframe to offer in regards to when I'll hear back from our web team in regards to this issue, but I've included this thread in the report filed, so I'll be able to share here once there is additional information to share.

Hello Lee - I do see where we have some updated documentation that I wanted to share in case this is helpful for you.

You may find that YouTube web objects are missing from your Storyline 2 courses when they're hosted in a learning management system (LMS). You can correct this issue by starting your YouTube links with https rather than http. If your LMS is using secure https to host content but your videos are using standard http, your web browser will prevent the videos from displaying.

Please let me know if this assists as we are still tracking this issue to gauge user impact.
