Embedding Video from Vimeo in course

Jul 13, 2023

Hello!
I'm working on a project where we have videos sprinkled throughout. The videos are pretty lengthy, so we are embedding them from Vimeo. I'm looking to see what is the best way to have the "Next"/"Back" buttons come up after the video has been completed. Using the embed code from Vimeo, the only way I've figured out is to stretch the video along the timeline to the full duration of the video (eg. 35 mins), then I have the buttons show when the timeline hits 35 minutes.  I've noticed that when using the embed option, even if the video is 35 minutes long, it does not initially drop into the timeline for the correct duration, and I have to extend the timeline for that asset to the time I want.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
Ger

Hi Geraldine,

Thanks for reaching out! Embedded website videos, such as those from YouTube or Vimeo, play independently of the Storyline slide and aren't controlled by the timeline. You're on the right track on a possible workaround for controlling the navigation buttons relative to the video!

Here's a Review 360 link of my tests where I embedded a 45-second Vimeo video and added a trigger to enable the Next button when the timeline reaches 45 seconds. You are correct that the timeline needs to be stretched up to the duration of the embedded video for the workaround to work. I attached my sample Storyline project for your reference.

Some community members use a Javascript solution as a workaround. You might want to explore that as well.

Let me know if you have questions!
