Error message in Edge when opening Office files

Feb 24, 2022

I am working with a production i Storyline 360 that should include word files for the users to download and edit in their installed Word application. The document should not be edited in the online Word application. (In my organization, the feature is turned off anyway).

Since December -21, an update in Microsoft Edge turned on the default behaviour to open Office files in the browser. The setting gives an error message when trying to open a Word document from the "Modern Player" resources tab, (see attached image). My users have Edge as the default browser and they don't have the option to install other browsers on their laptops.

When adding a Word file directly in our LMS, no error message appears when the user clicks on a link that leads to a Word file.

This error message sometimes appears for other people as well:

My current options is to persuade our IT departement to turn off the default setting in Edge for all users, or reworking the production and put the files outside of the production.

Please look into this problem, I would really like to be able to use the resource tab for Office files without relying on settings in the Edge browser.
