Error Message when opening previously saved SL File.

May 28, 2013

When I try to open a previously saved SL file I receive an error message that states the file is being used by another process, or I do not have proper security permission to access the resource. How do I remedy this?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Kipp!

First, please try to make sure that you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If that doesn't help, can you tell me if you've restarted the machine and whether or not you have administrative rights on the machine?

Thanks and welcome again!

Hey Mary!

Sorry you're running into this error message! First you'll want to make sure you're working locally, as Christine mentioned above. Have you tried importing the slides into a brand new Storyline 2 file? if that doesn't work and you're still having difficulty, then I would advise a repair of your software. Let me know if that helps!
