error saving storyline file

Nov 14, 2017

I didn't realize that I should not be saving to a network drive, until I searched the community and found recommendations for an issue saving my file that other users have experienced.  Specifically, I am receiving the error "Project file cannot be saved. Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'story package'.  I was able to publish the file.

I saved the file many times with no issue - now the date associated with the file is the creation date, and file appears blank in the directory.  I have tried some of the options in the previous threads with no success.

I am afraid to close and open for fear of losing all my work.  Help!

Hi Tara,

I'm so sorry you ran into an issue with this! Saving and working from a network drive is one of the things known to cause corruption. If you've already tried importing the existing file into a new .story file that's stored locally, one other solution that has helped other users is to find a copy of the project in your temp files.

Here's how to check for them:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Hope that helps and let us know if you need anything else.
