Error saving Storyline file - says file is in use

Apr 10, 2015

I have a user who has a Storyline 2 file saved on her desktop. Whenever she tries to save it in Storyline, she gets an error saying, "This process cannot access the file <<filename of the file on her desktop>> because it is being used by another process. Then it gives her a Save As button and forces her to save it with a new name.

I looked in task manager and she doesn't have any instances of Storyline running prior to opening the file that she's trying to save.

Can anyone help with this?

Hi, Carolyn -

A few things to try: Please make sure you are working locally as described here, and you may want to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline. Do you happen to know when the last time was that you did a reboot of your machine? That could help, and you might want to clear the temp files also. See here for details.

I continue to encounter this same issue with different Storyline 2 project files, particularly when I get deep into them.  With the latest project file, it's happened on 3 different days over the last 9 days, and it's happened about 5 times today. When it happens repeatedly, rebooting my computer sometimes resolves it for that day, but other times it doesn't. I've tried importing into a new file, which I don't like doing because it screws up some of the slides, and that's only a temporary fix, as it usually occurs again at some point later. I do all my work on the local machine and any files names are short.
