Evaluation Articulate Storyline

Jul 22, 2013

Hello everybody,

I work at the University of the Dundee and I am assessing the possibilities of Storyline before purchasing an educational license through the UK distributor.

We are using Moodle 2.2 as our LMS and we will publish the Storyline learning objects so that they ca

We already got a license for Studio 09, although we make little use of this last one product as we discovered some problems running the Scorm 1.4 packages in Moodle 2.2 and most of our users have been provided with IPads for their word, so Studio was not of much use for us.

It seems that Storyline has overcome the main limitations of Studio, but I have found others that I would like to enquire about here:

1) Human characters: I have noticed that neither in the free characters (avatars or photographics) nor the paid packages include Islamic characters or Islamic clothes.

We are delivering a MSc in Diabetes Care and Education for Kuwait-based studenta and this fact is a big limitation for us.

Do you know if there is a package/bundle which includes Islamic characters?

2) While assessing the 'quiz' tool, I published it as Scorm 1.4 and uploaded in Moodle (since Moodle 2.2 does not support Scorm activity anymore, I upload the packages as 'upload a file' and then restore the package and set the html page containing all the elements at the main file.

It runs in that way but I don't think that the score in the quiz can be exported to the Gradebook or converted into any Moodle scale.

Can you please confirm if there is any way of exporting students' score in Storyline into the Moodle Gradebook ?

In case I have missed something, how should a Storyline quiz should be imported into a Moodle course? (uploading it as IMS does not work)

grrr... " Moodle 2.2 does not support SCORM activity anymore" - that is incorrect.

Moodle 2.2 isn't supported anymore - bug fixes for 2.2.x ended Dec 2012 and support for security fixes ended in June 2013 - you should upgrade to a newer supported release like 2.4 or 2.5.

Moodle has never supported SCORM 2004 but has stayed on the roadmap and volunteers have been improving support - this volunteer effort on SCORM 2004 has ended. SCORM 1.2/AICC is still supported in stable releases and Tin Can support is planned.

more information on us stopping work on SCORM 2004 is here:

Also the SCORM player in Moodle doesn't provide great support for mobile devices at the moment - we have a GSOC student working on this for Moodle 2.6

Thanks for your reply, Dan. I have realised that I didn't express myself clear enough:

I was not meaning that Moodle does not support the SCORM standard any more, but that the old activity 'Add a scorm package'  of Moodle 1.9 has disappeard, that is what I mean.

In Moodle 2.0, I can upload the scorm package generated by Storlyine as a zip file and restore it, but I cannot export the score of quizzes to the gradebook.

Or am I missing something?

Regards,

Mari Cruz

Depending on your Moodle version the method to add a SCORM varies slightly:

Moodle 2.5

Moodle 2.4

Moodle 2.3

Moodle 2.2

If you don't see the options mentioned in the docs in the links above there is possibly something wrong with your install - you should take screenshots of what you do see and ask for help in the SCORM forum on moodle.org
