Exporting file for translation doesn't include layer names

Jan 11, 2023

We found out when exporting file for translation, that it doesn't include layer names.

When courses are localised and the storyline file is sent to our foreign development team, it is useful to them to be able to see the translation of slide names as well as layer names, so they can understand better when modifying functionality.

Could you please let me know if this is a bug or by design?

Thank you

I don't work for Articulate, so I can't say for sure. However, my guess is that this is by design. Here's why I think that:

  • Layer names are never seen in a published course. If they were exported for translation, that would add to the number of words to be translated.
  • When files are translated, the .story file isn't always handled by a foreign development team. I think it's much more likely that the original development team would handle the final files.
    • For example, I develop courses that are translated. I get the translated .story files back, but I do the final testing and publishing. (And I definitely don't want the layer names to be in a different language.)

You could submit a feature request asking to include the option to translate layer names. Frankly, though, I doubt that request would be implemented.
