External files not getting pulled when publishing

Jun 20, 2014

Hello Everyone,

I am working on developing multimedia pieces that house any type of resource (videos, powerpoints, pdfs for the most part) and when I go to publish I have run into some issues. I use "Jump to URL/File" to link buttons to PDF files that are stored on my computer. When I publish the story files, some of the PDFs get pulled into the "External_files" folder in the output and many of them do not. I am linking them all the exact same way and I can't track down the disconnect.

Can anybody help me out here? This is a massive project and I need to find the reason for this inconsistency.

Thanks

-Devin

Hi Devin,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

First, I'd recommend taking a look at the following tutorial, just to make sure you're not missing any steps:

Articulate Support - How to link to a file resource (attachment)

Make sure that you're attaching the files. If you're not attaching all of the files, that may be why they're not being moved to that directory.

Once they're attached, they should be available and the link should work properly.

It may also depend on how you're viewing the content. If you view a published Storyline presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

  • I suggest using SCORM Cloud for your course - it's a great place to test SCORM content.
  • Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.
  • You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

Let us know if you're still having trouble with this, or if you have any questions.

Thanks!
