Fading background

Good morning Heroes!
I currently have an interaction built into my course where an employee can mouse over an object to display a pop-up box that provides more information. Is there a quick-and-easy method to fading out the rest of the items on the slide when that pop-up box is displayed?
As the interaction currently exists, the pop-up box is on a separate layer, so it's a "show layer" interaction that allows the box to display in the first place. I'm unable to upload my example, due to work policies, so I apologize for that.
Basically, I'm just looking for a way to fade out everything in the background except for my pop-up box layer. Any help would be great.
Thanks!

You can always insert a shape on the layer and add translucency to it by adjusting the fill by sliding the transparency option. Send it to the back.
Hi Ron,
That's actually how I currently have it- just seemed a bit clunky. Didn't know if I was missing a switch somewhere that allowed you to dim everything "below" the layer or "below" an object.
Thank you for the response!
You may just need to add a slide transition to your layer to fade it in or add a fade animation to your shape and then delay the appearance of your content by .25 seconds.
