Brain, thanks a lot.

I seem to start loving Articulate Storyline

Well, I dont see the progress bar off in the stroyline outline. Is it something that you can customize or is it a deliberate effort so as to align with instructioning design concepts of ipad/other devices.

Does storyline work on Android? I am gonna test short that though.

Is it possible to achieve same interface that the normal articulate provides? How do I customize the skin?

Hi Sam,

You can disable the seekbar several ways:

1.  Click on the Home button, select Player, and uncheck Seekbar at the bottom of the Features section

2.  In Story View, select your slide(s), in the slide properties window in the bottom right click the Player Features dropdown, select Custom for the selected slides, and uncheck the Seekbar there

3.  In Slide View, select the base layer, click on the Gear icon for the base layer, & select Custom for the selected slides under Player features, and uncheck Seekbar there

Regarding Android support, most Android devices already support Flash.  So, they'll be able to play the Storyline content by default.

For information on customizing the player, see the link below:

It's not currently possible to "customize the skin".  However, you could hide all of the player elements & set the transparency of the player items to 100% to create your own skin within the project itself.  Here's a quick example that I put together:

In this example, I created my own previous & next buttons.  I also have a Volume Control button that uses the Stop and Play Media triggers to essentially stop and continue the slide audio.

Regarding Engage, yes it'll work in Storyline.  For more information, see the link below:

Keep in mind that since Engage is published Flash, it will not work on an iOS device or in the HTML5 output.

Many of the Engage interactions can be recreated in Storyline.  When you create a new slide, there's a tab for Templates.  Click that & you'll see a section for Top Interactions.  These were all created in Storyline and can be edited to your heart's desire:

Hi Brian,

Also, when I tested the courseware on iPAD, I noticed a BLUE PLAY button on the screen. Meaning, the course wouldnt open, till I click the BLUE PLAY.

It kinda looked very odd for me and I am sure my clients wouldnt like it either. Is there a way to take this off? When I launch the course using a link on my iPAD, i just want it to start running.

Brian, thanks for patiently responding to my queries. I know I'm asking you lot of basic stuff and have lot more coming up ...but I am a lil intrigued and interested in how the tool works.

Thanks much.

Hi Sam,

If you're concerned about the Engage interactions playing in iOS or HTML5 output, I'd recommend recreating the Engage interactions in Storyline.  You can use the Top Interactions as templates for most of your Engage interactions.

Well, I was successful in doing this. What I was trying to ask you is that: you have added some newer interactions for storyline. Is it possible to use them in old Articulate (the one you use for PPT)

Hi Sam,

In Mobile Safari on an iPad Apple won't let you automatically play audio or video without it being user initiated, meaning a user has to click a button for the course to begin playing.  The play button you see is what we use to trigger the audio, so if we removed this, any audio you would have on your first slide (or video) wouldn't play.

Dave, we are ok with the fact that the first page doesnt have any audio. Can you still tell me how to get away with the PLAY button.

New question: what are these conditional variables? What is the purpose and should i know some coding to achieve the master that?

Pls yes, which language?

Where can I find comprehensive tutorials for the same?

Hi Sam,

No programming necessary.  We made it really easy.  See the following tutorials:

Have fun!

Hi Sam

I am sure there is a tutorial there.

Conditions are used to ensure a trigger only fires if that condtion's is met.  Conditions can based on a variable value, the state of an object (e.g a button) or the window (if the slide is lightboxed or not).  Conditions can also be combined using AND and OR.

An example would be that you only want the next button to work when all the layers on that slide have been viewed.  You can set this up using conditions on the next button

Conditions allow you to do complex things, without having to learn to program
