Files size too large but only using images no video

Oct 31, 2018

Hello.

The file size of this course is 98,000 KB and we have a limit to load to our LMS servers. They are only images. No video content. I did use place holder stock images. Then when the course was approved I swapped out the FPO images with Adobe images.

1. Is that increasing my file size
2. If so is there a quick to replace images?

When I first replaced the image it was painful tedious because they all needed to be recropped. I'm used to working with Adobe Indesign, So please note I'm new to Articulate. I love the program! I couldn't find a link or discussion to solve this problem. Can you help?

Hi Trig,

The file is only showing here as 40 MB - are you sure this is the correct file to share?

Often when you remove images or other media elements, they're still in the file until you close and reopen it. Keeping them in there allows you to use the Undo button if necessary.

If you're still seeing the file size grow, I'd do a Save as and then close Storyline and reopen the new copy of your file. I've heard of folks having to save/close once or twice to have the file size really refresh.

I noticed that you also have audio files in there, but they are not actually adding that much to the size.

Most of the file size is from the images which are a lot larger than they need to be. I see that you inserted them and then cropped/resized in the program. When you do that, it is still retaining all the image data (even though it is hidden) so that you can undo it easily.

Try cropping and resizing in an external image editing program first.  I always keep an original version of images and then insert the edited ones into storyline once I make them the right size.

Hope that helps, Russ
