A few years ago there was a blog post about how to fill a circle with a character so that the head of the character extended past the edge of the circle, but the bottom of the character conformed to the circle shape. I can't seem to find the instructions anymore- does anyone still have that or have the instructions for it?

You can also use an old school shape-combining trick using block arcs to create the effect in Storyline:
David from the 3-point range with a score. Nice solution.
