Right now I am experiencing a bit of an issue with HTML5 only publish. It is still placing shockwave flash objects into my .zip file! The LMS won't accept the file because it contains .swf files.
I am on SL3 with the latest update and set to HTML5 Only publishing.
Our team is looking into an issue where an SWF file is created for videos even if the course is published in HTML5 only format when using the latest update of Storyline 3.
It sounds like that matches what you're running into? If so, you should be safe to delete those files from your published output and we'll let you know as soon as we have a fix in place.
Hi Jamila! It looks like you're using Storyline 360. We have 3 circumstances where .SWF files are being generated in the HTML5-only output, and we're working to eliminate them:
A logo in the Player
Zoom regions
Videos inserted from a file
Engage interactions were also creating .SWF in the output, but we fixed that in a recent update. Let me know if you're seeing something different, however!
I am currently experiencing this issue with my Storyline 3. I shared the same Storyline file with my coworkers, and they were able to publish without issues, but mine is creating that .swf file.
Besides going inside the folders to delete .swf file, is there a long term solution?
Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know we fixed the issue you reported where SWF files were created for videos, even if the course was published in HTML5 only format.
The announcement that Alyssa shared above is specific to Storyline 360, yes.
I took a look at a file in Storyline 3 and publishing to HTML5 only and I'm not seeing an issue with the .swf file in the published output.
Are you using the latest update to Storyline 3, which is Build 3.6.18134.0?
If so, with your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
I still have the same kind of problem. I'm updating many SL1/SL2 files for an HTML5 only output. Some of them have an alert when publishing "The project has the following features which are only supported in HTML5 format : Multiple LMS tracking options are selected".
So I have no publish Format options but yet output folder contains all the Flash version files (story.swf, index_lms_flash.html, etc.).

Hi there Justin,
I've seen similar reports of this problem, and I've found that it usually happens when the Storyline file contains an Engage interaction.
Does that sound like what you're experiencing?
In response to the original post: We are also experiencing the same issue when publishing to HTML5 only using Articulate Storyline 3.
Published a SCORM 1.2 HTML5 only content --> Looked into the story_content folder within the zip file where we found shockwave flash objects stored.
Why are shockwave flash objects being generated when the output is published to HTML5 only?
Any answers or assistance will be helpful.

Can you specifically mention which Engage interactions cause this to happen as well? Is the "Zoom" in function also an issue?

Hi Mariana and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
This issue is still open with our team, so I do not have a permanent solution to share with you at this time.
I'm adding this conversation to the report for Storyline 3 so that we can update you here when we can.

Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes.
If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I’ll be happy to help!
Is this only for 360? What about Storyline 3?

SL360 is up to date...
