I am using snagit to take screenshots for a software tutorial. When I open the jpeg it is crisp but when I insert into Storyline 2 the image is fuzzy and hard to read. Is there a setting I should be looking at? This has not happened before.
Are you scaling the image once inserting it? Have you looked into inserting it as a png file instead of a jpeg (they seem to behave a bit better)? You mentioned it not happening before, so this a new behavior for you while working in Storyline? Whenever something changes in terms of how it "used to work" I also recommend looking at the repair.
I tried the png file type based on what I read from doing a search of previous discussions. I scanned the information on scaling and found a infographic with dimensions. What I need to capture is pretty wide so the dimensions of available space will not show much. :( I am going to try a repair.
The maximum size for images in Articulate Storyline is 2048 pixels x 2048 pixels. Images that are larger than this will lose quality when inserted into Storyline, which may make them appear blurry or fuzzy.
When importing a very large image into Storyline, it'll initially be scaled down to fit within the slide dimensions that you chose for your project. However, you can reset it to its original size after inserting it. Here's how.
Thanks Ashley - I uninstalled Storyline 2 and reinstalled. The jpeg I have is 1862x831. I did the resize option and that did help with the crispness in slide view mode. Because the image is an odd size after I restored with the size and postion option I resized to 528x720 and the image is still crisp in slide view but not preview mode. Would the custom setting of 80% as the image quality impact the preview mode and cause fuzziness?
DOH! Yes - I am sorry, I had the actual file size on my brain. I am going with 4:3. I thought about doing 16:9 but felt the 4:3 is better for anyone launching on an iPad.
Thank you for the information. the .gif file does look a little better. The problem I face is that what I am trying to capture is very wide. Even if I adjust the window on my screen before I take a snagit, I will end up needing to manipulate it once in Storyline so the student can see the text. I like to have images take the full story size - especially when dealing with software training.
That is going to have to be the trade off, whenever you take a screenshot and reduce its size it will go fuzzy. The only way to prevent this is to keep it at its current size.

oh, and thank you for the information thus far!

Hi Heather,
Changing the image quality settings prior to publish should help and make your photo appear crisper. What's your overall story size?
Hi Ashley,
I am still in the early phase of development but this course will be fairly large when all is said and done.
Hi Heather,
Story size refers to the slide size, not the file size as detailed here.
Ideally you would save screenshots as png or gifs. The jpg compression is not suited to screenshots.

Hi Phil,
I did try .png and it was also fuzzy. I am using snagit to take the screenshot and can save as a jpeg or png. I will try the .gif file
I would try gifs first and then ensure you are not resizing the image at all, this will cause loss of clarity. Set the quality to 100%

Alas - I may have to deal with a slight fuzziness to show the full screen I am trying to capture.
Agreed - LOL - it looks like we were saying the same thing at the same time. :)
