"Get" a variable and send the results of the quiz

Jan 21, 2013

Hey guys

I'm looking to do something and i dont quite know how.

Here's the thing.

1 - I want the learner to enter in a text box at the beginning of the course the email of his trainer. Then at the end, i want Storyline to recuperate the content of that variable and enter it in the mailto field.

2- I want storyline to send with that email the learn'ers result of the quiz to the trainer.

Is that possible? How do i do it?

Thanks!

Hi Nathalie,

We want every feature in our software to work well. And, unfortunately, there’s no way to email results easily, accurately, and consistently. For example, if you use Gmail or your computer’s security settings are high, you can’t email results. Also, you run the risk of learners tampering with results since they can access the email before it’s sent. Given these limitations, we decided not to include the email results feature in our products anymore.

However, there have been a few discussions on this topic on the forums and you may find some of the other community member suggestions helpful. One option is to use JavaScript. Another option may be to have your LMS handle this for you. It's a fairly common feature set today on most LMSs to have email communication rules set up automatically. However, please keep in mind that Articulate doesn't provide support for JavaScript. There are some awesome Heroes in this community that would be able to help with this, though. If you'd like to get more feedback and suggestions, please feel free to post over in the Building Better Courses section of the forums.

Here's some additional resources that may help:

Because of various browsers and difficulties in sending e-mail these days, you may want to do something different.  Jeanette suggested that in a previous thread:  http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/13158/78032.aspx#78032

You could consider using Google docs to create a Google form and insert that in Storyline as a web object.  The results get written to a spreadsheet that you can download to evaluate completions.

Hmm. it looked at all the comments and the way ppl tried to work around this and none seem simple. It dont' know how to collect the results of the storyline quiz into a GoogleDoc spreadsheet and this method looks like its even less secure than emailing the results....

Its especially frustrating to not be able to email results since it can be done in QuizMaker.

The reasons why the feature where not included are strange. I could have tried it, seen if it works, seen the results, assessed the risk myself and decided to use that feature or not. I'm sorry the articulate team took a decision in my place by now making it available.

Thanks for the quick answer tho, the support is impeccable, as always.
