Help required in screen casting.

Nov 04, 2015

Hello,

I was using the feature of record screen in storyline one. I am facing the following problems:

1. I am unable to modify the size of the recorded screen (dimension= 408 X 718).

2. The published file's size has increased significantly. In normal case 27 screens have an output file of  16 MB; but here 20 screens have an output file of 18 MB.

Please help in solving these issues.

Hi Merlin!

You should be able to edit your screen recorded video via the toolbar under movie tools and options. Check out this tutorial for assistance.

As for the sizing, you can player properties so that the course does not scale. Check this tutorial out for assistance.

Just let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hi Merlin!

I'm not sure if you just gave me a sampling of your course, but I'm only seeing the file size at 5.15 MB. If you are still seeing the inflated sizing, you may need to import your slides into a new project to see if that alleviates the issue.

As for your sizing, it looks as if you are inserting the recording as slides, not video, so you would need to look at adjusting your story size.

Hi Merlin,

Thanks again for sharing your file - I took a look today while Leslie is out, and I saw it at 16.6 mb which is the size indicated here when you uploaded it. In regards to overall file size, some items you could look into that add to the size are extra slide masters which you aren't using, or additional screen recordings. For example in this file it seems that there are 3 screen recordings included, but only 1 in use. I'd look at deleting the other screen recordings. Similarly there are two sets of masters, but only one in use. All those items add additional size to your project even though they aren't in use at the time.

In regards to changing the capture size, you won't be able to do that after you've conducted the screen recording. The step by step set up includes the actions as individual elements on a slide as a part of the background so they also won't be able to be resized.

Hi Merlin,

We're always here to help! The staff in the forums is mostly working east coast US hours, so sometimes there is a delay based on hours, weekends and holidays. But luckily we've got a number of community members who are around to assist too.

Let us know if you have any other questions and a happy diwali to you as well!
