Help? Text entry boxes and invisible spaces

I use text entry boxes in a quiz and score them according to what is entered. Spaces count as characters, so if an extra space is typed it will mark the slide "incorrect." We work around that fairly well with plenty of warnings but I am wondering if there is a way to make those spaces visible during the quiz review? That way the learner can see if that is why they were marked incorrect.

Unless this is a typing or grammar test, I would run it through a JavaScript to remove double spaces.

Alternatively, You can check for concept words, rather than exact phrases. That way a learner that knows the answer isn’t penalized for not being able to guess the exact correct wording. (Unless they have been taught the exact wording.)
