Help with Reviewing Modules

Jan 23, 2017

I have a somewhat complicated issue.  I have a course with around 22 separate modules/chapters.  Each chapter must be completed in a sequence before moving to the next chapter.  The end of each chapter has a review exam which the learner must make a 75% passing rate, or, they must retake the exam.  They are not allowed to move on to the next chapter until they pass the review exam.  This community has been wonderful to help me with everything functioning properly for that portion of my course.  Thank you!

Here's my problem - Each chapter has test questions intermingled throughout the module to test the learner as they progress through the course, including the end of chapter review quiz.  At first, I noticed that when you would go back through the chapter a second time, (or additional times) the intermingled questions had my previous answers I chose for the questions.  I changed the question slides to "reset to initial state." Everything is working good, however, when you begin the module for a second or third time, the LMS I am using (Litmos) changes the state from "completed" back to "in progress," (even though it's completed) on their server side.  I have two questions:

1.  How can I allow the user to have "FREE" access for a module they have already completed?  (Restricted first time, unrestricted on repeat reviews)

2.  How do I keep my LMS (Litmos) from updating the completed status back to an in progress state when they have indeed completed the chapter?

In other words, I want the user to be required to go through the chapter as restricted the first time, but then have a free state on any additional reviews.  I also do not want the LMS to think that just because they are reviewing the chapter a second, third, fourth, etc. time, that they should be changed back to an "in progress" state.

I hope this makes sense and I hope someone can help me?

Thanks!

John

Hi John!

You can set up "Restricted" navigation as an option under Player > Menu, and that would allow the learner to view only the previous slides and the current slide. Additionally, if you would like the user to be able to return to a course after viewing it, you'll want to set each slide to "Resume saved state", which will tell the course not reset anything when the user views a slide again.

You'll also want to ensure that from Player > Other, you have the "Resume on Restart" feature set to "Prompt to resume", and the user will be able to pick up where they left off. With this option, the user can use the Menu to go back to the first slide of the course and start again.
