I am working in story line. I have watched a bunch of the tutorials but I
have found my problem anywhere. I have a message in a caption but I
want the caption hidden until it is triggered by a button. Can you point
me to the tutorial that would address this issue or help me out.

Change the initial state of the caption to hidden. Then you can create a trigger to show it.
