Hint Captions and more

Jul 30, 2014

I've created an interactive story from recording something I do on a website. Is there a way to make the Hint Caption layer automatically appear for all the slides or do I have to do this individually?

Also, some of the hotspots I've created will only allow the user to click in the lower left region of where the hotspot is located. Is that normal? I wanted to draw a big enough hotspot so that the user had an easy time clicking, but that's not working.

Hi Claire,

If you've conducted a screen recording the hint caption are generated automatically and included. You can modify them after the fact, as described here and if you'd like them to appear immediately and without a user prompt that is a setting when you insert your screen recording:

By default they're set to "when hovered"

In regards to the hotspots, are these hotspots you inserted? The entire hotspot should be active - so if it's not, we'd probably want to take a look at the .story file. You'll also want to confirm that you're working on your .story files as described here and working at a DPI setting of 96 DPI to prevent odd behavior. If they are hotspots created as a part of the screen recording, Storyline will determine a general range around where you clicked - but it shouldn't be only accessible by clicking in a portion of it.

If you'd like to share your .story file with us you can attach it using the paperclip icon to the forums. Keep in mind there is about a 20 mb limit for uploads, so if it's larger than that you may want to strip it down to a few slides or even make a sample/mocked up version of your course to share.
