I am new to building courses. I have created a hover state that changes to green. It is working but when I hover over the text box I have inserted it changes back to normal state color. Thanks for your help!
I couldn't replicate your problem, but a possible fix is to place a hover state on the text box and a trigger to change the state of the shape when mouse hovered over the text.
Just in case you were not aware, you can also add text to shapes without using text boxes.
If you're still having difficulty after taking a look at Lance's example, are you able to share a copy here with us? You'll also want to confirm that you're working on local project files as described here.

How can I add text to a shape so I don't have to use text boxes, as Lance mentioned above?

When you insert a shape you can type text while the shape is still selected. Are you having difficulty with this?

Also, you can come back later, right-click it, and choose Edit Text.
