I am creating a quiz that has check boxes on it and when the wrong answer is selected it jumps to a layer where the check box is RED and then the option to either un-check the box or hit a try again trigger button and go back to base layer to start over. The problem i am running into is if i actually check the same check box a second time once i return to the base layer and it goes back to the layer designed for wrong answer, the check box this time is empty and no check mark is in it.. if i redo this again it comes back.. so basically every other time it appears and disappears.
I should add that you have to click on the Articulate icon in order to open another instance...you can't just hit File:New...it will try to close your current story and open a new one.
Save the file under a new name and delete all slides you don't want to share.
As far as your original issue, is the checking and unchecking of the box a state change for the object? If so, you should be able to get what you want by setting the state of the object to "checked" when the timeline starts on the layer that comes up.

That method of showing just a couple slides is definitely easier
Either solution for keeping that box checked should work, by the way. I think that setting the slide to reset each visit probably a little easier to do, but depending on what you're trying to do, you might not want to reset that layer. Good luck!
I'm guessing by John's original description that he hasn't changed slides while all this is happening, so I'm not sure resetting the slide with each visit will accomplish what it needs to. All that has happened in his example is a new layer has been shown, then hidden, and then shown again. So unless you plan to have a trigger that causes the slide to jump to itself, changing the revisit setting won't help.
Well because he said that it returns to the base layer when you click on either a button or the check box. If you go back to the base layer by clicking the check box, it will be unchecked if you come back...unless you set the initial state as checked and have the layer reset itself when its revisited.

I can't be sure this will work without seeing the story, but maybe setting the slide layer to "reset to initial state" on revisit will help.
I tried that already and it doesnt seem to help... is there a way i can share only those few slides i mentioned?
Maybe open another instance of articulate and copy/paste those slides into a new story. You can share that file...

and by the way I realize I misspoke. You're not resetting the slide, you're resetting the states of the second layer every time it's revisited.
Anyways here's an example of what I was talking about. Hopefully this is the functionality you are looking for.
