My course is narrated. Some of the narration is long, say 20 seconds. I would like to keep the user on the slide for at least 10 of the 20 seconds. How can I do that?
You could add a shape to your timeline (on stage or off) that has ten seconds of duration. Add a trigger to the shape to change the state of the shape to hidden. Now add a condition to your next button that checks to see if this shape is hidden. One way to do it.
This seems to be the behavior. If you add an object further down the timeline and target it with a show trigger sooner, it'll show even if it's not under the "playhead" yet. Can do some cool stuff dynamically triggering entry and exit animations of objects this way.

Thanks Steve,
It works! I did not know that when an object goes off via timeline that it changes state to hidden. Interesting!
Thanks, Rick
